Nice catch. I hadn't seen the third one. I edited NOTHING and loved the cover when we picked it.

Yep, stock photos come with risks, and this happens all the time (hence we get to play this fun game every year), but it would be very difficult to do small-budget books (and that would be most books) without it. Photo shoots with models cost a fortune.

I wonder why this is "shameful." Fair enough not to like the designs, but it's apparently a good photo (actually two photos from the same shoot), used to different effect by each designer for three very different books. The very fact that this one photo got picked three times by different designers from the hundreds of thousands of candidates says something about the photo's power.

I find that it's not the source of the photo (from a shoot or stock) that determines the quality of the cover, but how well the desiger has been directed and how well they get into the book.

They are from Flux, Scholastic, and Walker Books respectively. I haven't read any of them though I know I own Ready or Not? at my library. I have read the reviews for Twelve Long Months and I don't think the photo fits the book at all. The guy and girl both look too young to be 18 year olds moving to New York for college and jobs.

One of my librarian friends has one, and I'm only mildly jealous because I never really did get into Sweet Valley High. I'm a fantasy girl, myself. They are really cute though.

Wow. Wow. Wow. That really is shameful. Those are even worse than the covers shown on Alt Teen Services site. I'll be lazy like them and instead of looking it up, I'll ask you, are they all from the same publisher? Garsh! Even the same shirts! They couldn't even pretend that they were different people. And the same forlorn expression. Honestly, those covers really don't encourage me to buy the books...
